Rob Hansen has been involved in science fiction fandom since the mid-1970s and has conducted extensive research into the community's past, going back to its beginnings in the early 1930s. 1957: The First UK Worldcon was the winner in the Best Special Publication category of the Fanzine Activity Achievement (FAAn) Awards presented in 2023, where Rob Hansen also received the FAAn Award for Lifetime Achievement.
