David V. Barrett in Fortean Times (May 2025): “This is a collection of over 50 essays, reviews, memoirs, polemic and the odd SF convention speech by British SF writer Ian Watson, as well as fascinating commentary on how some of his novels were conceived. [...] The real gem in this book is a wonderful black-comedy account of the months Watson spent enduring Stanley Kubrick’s at times utterly bonkers idiosyncrasies at his country mansion while writing, discussing and revising the storyline for what would eventually become the film A.I. Artificial Intelligence, based loosely on a short story by Brian Aldiss, who apparently loathed Watson. (Many of us remember how prickly Aldiss could be!)”
Pauline Morgan in SFCrowsnest (5 October 2025): “This is a book well worth having to dip into, providing insights into the mind, beliefs and enthusiasms of a respected SF author.”
